April 10th: 1 Year until WCC

Postby KarenS » Wed Apr 12, 2006 8:06 am

From the Grenada Broadcasting Network: "Today, April 10th marks one year to the day, when Grenada would be hosting its first game in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.

Six games are scheduled to be played in Grenada in the Super 8 stage of the Cricket World Cup 2007.

As part of the activities a number of media opportunities are planned, including a tour of the stadium construction and a press conference with officials of the LOC.

The areas of Venue Development, Ticketing, Volunteers, Accommodations and the expected National Response would be the main focus.

The highlight of the day’s activity would be a special Interactive Lecture Briefing session organized by the Grenada Bar Association, focusing on the Sunset Legislation and the CWC Anti Infringement Programme.

Sunset Legislation attempts to deal with the movement of fans across the region, harmonize the way customs and immigration procedures are handled, introduces the concept of ambush marketing, deals with how the venues will be managed, and includes special provisions to be put in place for crowd control, traffic control, and security.

The Lecture would be conducted by Mr. Derek Jones, Senior Legal Counsel from Cricket World Cup 2007 and would be held at the Flamboyant Hotel Conference Room from 7.00 this evening.

Grenada and eight other Caribbean countries are intensifying preparations to host the 3rd largest sporting event in the world, from March 5th to April 28th 2007.

The Government of Grenada has identified the Cricket World Cup and all related infrastructural developments as one of country’s largest investment projects.

Construction and upgrades are in progress at Progress Park, La Sagesse and the National Stadium at the Queens Park.

Related external works are scheduled to begin on the Green Bridge, the Grenville Vale Road and the Beausejour Bridge

Grenada is expected to host teams from Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and West Indies from April 10th ‚Äď April 20th 2007."
