This year the Carriacou Regatta Festival in Grenada celebrates its 42nd anniversary Aug. 3-6 with festival highlights including Miss Aquaval Queen Show, donkey racing, Greasy Pole, and numerous cultural and sporting events.

The festival has evolved from a mere boating race in 1965 to the biggest summer festival in Carriacou today. The main event, the regatta races, focus mainly on the locally built Workboats, with some 12 different classes of boats ranging from 14 to 35 feet in length.

Sailors from neighboring islands - Tobago, Martinique, Antigua and St. Vincent and the Grenadines- gather for the competition. Known as the “Spice Island of the Caribbean,” Grenada can be reached from the U.S. with Air Jamaica’s service from JFK/New York five days a week.
