What is Passa Passa entertainment?

Postby KarenS » Wed Mar 08, 2006 8:50 am

According to Grenada Broadcasting Network: "The Grenada government is putting its foot down on ‚ÄúPassa Passa‚ÄĚ entertainment, which is gaining popularity in Grenada.

The practice has its origin in Jamaica.

Last week, Education Minister Clarice Charles voiced concern over the issue saying it has no place in Grenada.

Now the Minister for Ecclsiasistic Affairs Ann David Antoine says a decision has been taken at the Cabinet level to talk to promoters to ensure that they help prevent the practice.

She says some of the promoters have already promised to take action to nip the problem in the bud.

Minister Antoine says if there is to be any success; the public’s support is needed and she believes many of the DVD’s sold in the city lead to this type of behaviour.

Meanwhile, the Grenada National Coalition on the rights of the child supports the call made by the Education Minister.

The organisation believes this non traditional form of entertainment could have serious implications on the social development of the nation’s youth.

It is concerned about the consequences these events are having on young boys and girls and its impact on the lives of young people."

Exactly what is Passa Passa and why is it considered so negative to the lives of young people?
