From "Visiting Guadeloupe made food writer and humorist Calvin Trillin wonder why he ever wasted time in the British Caribbean islands. 'It's certainly enough to make me wonder why so much of my time in the Caribbean had been spent in former British colonies where the chefs seemed to have been looked after by Saint Nigel, the Anglican saint of gray meat and veggies.'' In his essay, 'A Woman's Place', part of his collection, 'Travels with Alice,' Trillin noted, 'In Guadeloupe and Martinique the best thing the French did for eating was to contribute their culinary approach as one of the elements - African cooking and Caribbean ingredients were among the others.''

Please tell me of your favorite restaurants that make Trillin's words ring true!
