NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On Friday, November 3, a ceremonial ribbon-cutting was held at the 10th hole of Temenos Golf Club at the St. Regis Resort and Residences, Temenos Anguilla, that kicked off the inaugural Marquis Jet - Temenos Golf Club Invitational. A generous $100,000 was raised from proceeds of the event to benefit The Anguilla Children’s Fund established by successful island restaurateurs, authors and lifestyle experts Bob and Melinda Blanchard whose new restaurant Zurra, is located at the golf course’s stunning 28,000 square foot Clubhouse.
Amid rousing renditions of the Anguillian and British National Anthems sung by local schoolchildren and with steel drums supplied by renowned island musician Dumpa, 21 local Anguillian youth teed off in a perfectly timed swing inaugurating the course under a crystal-clear blue Anguillian sky. The three day event was sponsored by Marquis Jet as title sponsor and Bear, Stearns & Co., the Dan & Blythe Brown Foundation and Deutsche Bank as leading sponsors. Guests flew in on private jets provided by Marquis Jet and participated in the shotgun tournaments attended by golf legend and designer of the course, Greg Norman. Emmy award-winning sportscaster and NFL superstar, Ahmad Rashad, and noted author, Dan Brown, (The DaVinci Code) were on hand to participate in the festivities.
Paul Kanavos, CEO, Flag Luxury Properties, LLC and Robert F.X. Sillerman, CEO, CKX, Inc. presented a $100,000 check to launch The Anguilla Children’s Fund to founders, Bob and Melinda Blanchard at the post-tournament awards luncheon. The Anguilla Children’s Fund was created to develop youth centers across the island which will offer programs and activities to children between the ages of 6-16, from a professionally trained staff and volunteer support.
Following the successful opening of Temenos Golf Club, the full St. Regis Resort and Residences, Temenos Anguilla, is scheduled to open in late 2008. Manhattan-based Flag Luxury Properties, LLC, is the developer of the resort. Temenos Golf Club is managed by Troon Golf®, the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing, and is Anguilla’s first-ever golf course.
