With golf amenities that include three flawless courses, GPS equipped golf carts, and a 450-yard driving range, Sandy Lane in Barbados is one of the Caribbean's leading luxury golf destinations. Catering to all levels, the fairways at Sandy Lane provide an exciting challenge for experts while also offering learning experiences for beginners. Players can work on their handicap by taking advantage of all the resort has to offer with the following:
- Select a Course - With stunning views of the Barbados' Platinum coast and the Caribbean Sea, guests can choose from three spectacular courses.
ยท With lush greens, five lakes, and flawlessly cut fairways, The Country Club course is a golfer's delight. Designed by Tom Fazio, this demanding 72 par, 7,060-yard course has breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea.
ยท The Green Monkey, also designed by Tom Fazio, is an ultra-exclusive 72 par, 7,343-yard golf course. Accessible only to hotel guests with limited tee times available between 8:30 and 9:30am, the course is carved from an old limestone quarry and offers an experience that is not to be missed.
- Constructed in 1961, the famous Old Nine course meanders through the Sandy Lane estate. At 3,345 yards, par 36, The Old Nine is intimate yet challenging because of its small greens and tight fairways.
- Practice Your Drive - The extensive 450-yard Driving Range is located at The Country Club course and dedicated to pre- and post-play. The two-sided North and South tees offer golfers the challenge of practicing hitting against the trade winds while overlooking the 1st, 9th and 18th greens.
- Find Your Way - The golf carts, included in the green fees of The Country Club and The Green Monkey courses, are fitted with a GPS system showing location and distances relative to the greens and hazards. The GPS also provides tips on the best way to play the hole and can be used to order light refreshments.

Puntacana Resort & Club, the exclusive resort property in the Dominican Republic, has been named Golf Resort of the Year by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators in the 'Rest of the World' category.
Puntacana Resort & Club is currently home to two world class golf courses, P.B, Dye's La Cana and Tom Fazio's Corales, with a third, Hacienda, set to open in 2011. The P.B. Dye-designed La Cana Golf Course, which opened in 2001, has long been a firm favorite of golfers from all over the world and, in line with PCRC's efforts to be as environmentally friendly as possible, was the first course in the Caribbean to use paspalum, a grass seed that can be watered using sea water.
In April 2010, the highly anticipated Tom Fazio-designed Corales course opened to rave reviews with Golf Week's Brad Klein naming the course "The future of Caribbean golf." With the addition of Hacienda, the resort will offer 54 holes of championship golf to guests of the resort. The combination of the three courses, along with the many other amenities available to guests, makes Puntacana Resort & Club the Caribbean's premier golf and beach destination.
"Golf at Puntacana Resort & Club is truly a unique experience." said Jay Overton, director of golf and club operations at Corales. "When the opportunity presented itself to be able to head Corales I came out of retirement knowing that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of a truly remarkable project."

This is cool - one of my all time favorite golfers Fred Couples is on a tear - and he won this past weekend in the Dominican Republic:
CAP CANA, Dominican Republic (AP) -- When Fred Couples joined the Champions Tour this year, most everyone predicted success befitting a 15-time PGA TOUR winner and Masters champion.
Couples shot a 62, breaking the course record at the 7,170-yard, par-72 Punta Espada Golf Club and winning the Cap Cana Championship on Sunday by two strokes.
He made 11 birdies in the final round and finished the tournament at 21-under 195. Corey Pavin finished second.
"It was an unbelievable day," said Couples who made five birdies in a row from the second through sixth hole. "The first six or seven holes, there was an eagle, birdies and putts going in from everywhere."
The Cap Cana Championship, a PGA Champions Tour Event, will be coming up in the Dominican Republic from March 26 to 28 at the Punta Espada Golf Club.
A member of our travel forums, Yardi, was kind enough to send some photos of the Tryall Golf Club to us:

* Players being greeted by a spectacular vista of St. Maarten and the Caribbean Sea at the tee box of the 390-yard starting hole. The fairway descends over 40-feet to a narrow, two-tiered green sitting precariously on the edge of a saltwater lagoon. Robb Report called this first hole, "The Caribbean's answer to the 18th at Pebble Beach."
* Large sand dunes on the left and a saltwater pond on the right framing the perilous drive on the 440-yard 16th hole that plays dead into the trade winds and ends with an elevated green surrounded by water and protected by deep bunkers.
* The drive for the finishing hole carrying the edge of the mangrove thicket in a vast stretch of saltmarsh that winds through eight of the course holes. The narrowing fairway ascends forty feet through rugged terrain to a narrow green carved out of the native shrub.

DR1 has got the scoop on the 2009 Cap Cana PGA event:
The PGA Tour's Champions Tour, The Cap Cana Championship 2009, will take place at the Punta Espada golf course on 23-29 March. The event is a repeat of last year's successful tournament that brought some of the most famous golf champions of all times to the eastern seaside course designed by Jack Nicklaus in the luxury residential community. Mark Wiebe was last year's winner, and this year 78 golfers are expected. Last year, Jay Haas, Craig Stadler, Curtis Strange, Tom Watson, Tom Kite, Nick Price, Fred Funk, Eduardo Romero, Vicente Fernandez, Bernard Langer and Ian Woosnam also played in the tournament.
At a press conference held to announce the tournament, PGA Champions Tour president Mike Stevens said that the tournament had been an unprecedented success in all senses of the word -- given the DR's hospitality and the extent that the players enjoyed the complete experience. Our players and our work team are looking forward to returning to Cap Cana in 2009," he said. Players will compete for a US$315,000 prize for the winner, and a US$2.1 million purse. The Cap Cana Championship will be transmitted by The Golf Channel for North America, Europe and the Caribbean and ESPN Latin America for Latin America. Golf Digest magazine has ranked the Punta Espada course among the 100 best courses outside of the US. Forbes also lists it among the 10 best golf courses in the Caribbean, and Robb Report's "Best of the Best" featured it as one of the most extraordinary golf courses around the world. The course opened in November 2006 and is operated by Troon Golf. The Champions Tour is open to golfers over the age of 50. In 2009, it will be in its 30th year.
