U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS, May 23, 2010 - The Department of Tourism has launched a new feature on its tourism web site, VisitUSVI.com that makes it easier than ever for couples planning a wedding in the Territory.

As part of the Department's ongoing strategy to market the destination to key niche segments, the new Request for Proposal (RFP) functionality on VisitUSVI.com makes requesting destination wedding information a hassle-free, efficient process for couples. Rather than sifting through dozens of web sites and wedding service providers, couples can simply submit one wedding RFP form (*editors, see attached) directly from VisitUSVI.com and receive responses from on-island wedding consultants, properties, and other service suppliers with information and price quotes to plan their special day. The RPF form is currently distributed to more than 40 on-island wedding service providers.

The new page allows couples to submit a request including information about the event date and time, theme, guests, hotels, and other details about their wedding plans. Launched just two weeks ago, the feature is already proving to be a big success. To date, more than 40 requests have already been received using the new functionality.

"To remain competitive with destination wedding locations, we knew this functionality was a necessity for our Web site," said Commissioner of Tourism, Beverly Nicholson-Doty. "Weddings represent approximately 7-10 percent of business to the Territory, which equates to $15-20 million dollars annually. We're pleased to have this new interactive element on VisitUSVI.com that contributes to making the user experience more engaging for couples planning a wedding."

The Wedding RFP is a part of the Department's overall marketing commitment to the bridal segment. Its current $521,000 media buy includes advertising in Destination Weddings and Honeymoons and on destinationweddingmag.com, theknot.com, Martha Stewart Weddings, Brides and Marrycaribbean.com, among others.

Any licensed wedding service-provider that wishes to be included on the form's recipient list may contact the Department of Tourism to make this request.
