Coral Sands Hotel, Harbour Island, The Bahamas

coral-sands-hotel.jpgThe Coral Sands Hotel is a charming property directly overlooking the exquisite Pink Sand Beach on quaint Harbour Island in The Bahamas. This is a 39 room gem that has what few other small hotels possess - property. There are tennis courts and enough room to roam to enjoy an evening walk and still be on site. Throughout the hotel the decor has been carefully designed to say: colonial meets Caribbean. With the juxtaposition of louvered windows, dark wood floors and cool pastel colored walls, the refined lobby harkens back to the days of the Caribbean Great House. Just outside the lobby, the open air - yet covered restaurant offers a view of the kidney-shaped pool which is flanked by parasol covered daybeds. Further on toward the beach is the 'Beach Bar and Lounge'. Perched on stilts, and jutting slightly over the pink sand beach, lunch and drinks are served here.

The only village on the island, Dunmore Town, is a short walk away, so there is no need for transportation while on the island. In fact if you arrive by ferry, although Coral Sands is on the other side of the island, it is only a short 10 minute walk. Taxi's are available to transport your luggage to the hotel.

In addition to their hotel rooms, there is a 2 bedroom beach house available, as well as a fabulous 3 bedroom private home with its own cottage!

Getting there: Through Nassau, you can fly to neighboring North Eleuthera, or take the 2 1/2 hour ferry, which leaves from Potter's Cay in Downtown Nassau. The fare is about $100 roundtrip.

Internet: free for guests. However, there is only one computer, which is situated in the reception area of the main lobby.

Cost: $295-$635, depending on season and size. The Villa Carissa is $8000 per week, while the Beach House is upwards of $2000 per day.

Tip: For a fee of about $50 a day, you can rent a golf cart, suitable to see this small island at a leisurely pace. Unfortunately, there are no golf courses on Harbour Island.
